Our first snowbird trip to the Florida Keys! December 21, 2024 to February 1, 2025

Our first trip as snowbirds from Michigan to the Florida Keys was a dream come true. We left behind the snow, ice, and freezing temperatures of a Michigan winter in search of warmth, sunshine, and a slower pace of life. Trading in shovels and snow boots for flip-flops and sunglasses, we found ourselves basking in the 80-degree weather, soaking up the sun by the pool, and sipping tropical drinks at the tiki bar. The days were filled with blue skies, palm trees, and the relaxing sound of ocean breezes—exactly the kind of escape we’d been craving all winter long.

Spending New Year’s Eve at Skipjack Resort & Marina in Marathon, Florida, was an unforgettable experience that perfectly captured the laid-back charm of the Keys. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we found ourselves at the resort’s poolside tiki bar, where the atmosphere was electric with anticipation. Live music filled the air, setting the tone for an evening of celebration. We sipped on expertly crafted cocktails, mingled with fellow guests, and shared stories that made us feel like part of a larger family. The resort’s welcoming ambiance, combined with the warm tropical breeze, created an ideal setting to ring in the New Year. As midnight approached, the excitement was palpable, and when the clock struck twelve, cheers erupted, marking the beginning of a new chapter. It was, without a doubt, the most memorable New Year’s Eve we’ve celebrated in years, leaving us with cherished memories and a longing to return.
